• Sarah Jessica Parker and Chris Noth played love interests on Sex and the City for more than two decades across the HBO show and its multiple spin-offs.
  • SJP was recently honored with the Golden Globes’ Carol Burnett Award for her accomplishments in film and TV on Tuesday, Jan. 6.
  • Chris raised some eyebrows when he responded to a shady comment about Sarah Jessica’s award, but he has since clarified what he meant.

Sarah Jessica Parker and Chris Noth portrayed one of the greatest/anxiety-inducing love stories as Sex and the City’s Carrie Bradshaw and John “Mr. Big” Preston for more than 20 years. It takes a certain kind of chemistry to pull off that classic push-and-pull dynamic (which is, perhaps, one of the earlier examples of a situationship), hence the pair’s longtime off-screen friendship.

SJP has seemingly scaled back any public interactions with Chris since two women reportedly came forward with sexual assault allegations against the actor in 2021. This also prompted his sudden exit from SATC’s infamous spin-off, And Just Like That. Nearly four years after those reports surfaced, Chris raised eyebrows when he responded to a shady comment in reference to SJP recently being honored with the Golden Globes’ Carol Burnett Award on January 4.

Confused as to how we got here, and why there’s suddenly some drama between the former co-stars? We’ve got more details on the situation. Here’s what’s going on between Chris and Sarah Jessica.

It all started when Sarah Jessica Parker was honored with the Carol Burnett Award

On January 6, SJP was honored alongside Dame Helen Mirren with the Golden Globes’ Carol Burnett Award.

A few days later, Chris responded to a shady Instagram comment aimed at SJP

On January 9, Chris posted a series of gym photos on Instagram with the caption, “F&@k new years - LETS GO!!!!” Someone then popped into his comments section, writing, “You mean fuck sjp & her award right? lol.”

Per People, Chris simply responded, “Right.” It didn’t seem like he came to her defense, but it also didn’t seem like he was denying the comment.

Then, he walked back on the comment in a separate post

A few days after his alleged dig at SJP made headlines, Chris cleared the air with a separate Instagram post. Alongside a headshot, he penned a lengthy caption to explain what went down.

“My off-the-cuff slightly sarcastic response to a comment on the internet seems to have caused a tempest in a teapot,” he wrote, in part. “It is not news. It is not worth all this discussion. It is a waste of time in a world there are more important things to worry about.”

SJP has yet to respond to his comments, so time will tell whether this story develops further.
